The Future of Accounting: Why Current Billing Methods Are Outdated and How Numiron Is Changing the Game
April 12, 2026
The world is changing, and with it, the way companies approach their financial management. At Adviterra, we are among the leaders in accounting digitization in Slovakia, and we believe the time has come to address an important topic: What should fair, modern, and transparent pricing look like in 21st-century accounting?
Currently, business owners most often pay for accounting services using one of the following methods:
Monthly flat rate
- Advantage: Predictable billing, no surprises. For larger companies where budgets are strictly monitored against actual costs, this advantage is even more pronounced.
- Disadvantage: Every accounting firm builds a certain “buffer” into its flat-rate fee. This buffer is used to cover monthly fluctuations and increases in the number of documents, and serves as a reserve to avoid frequent adjustments to the agreed-upon price. As a result, clients almost always end up paying the most when choosing this option.
Payment based on the number of accounting entries
- Advantage: You pay exactly for what you use. If the quote is based on the general ledger and the company is stable, the price can be estimated with near-perfect accuracy.
- Disadvantage: Clients often cannot imagine what exactly counts as an accounting item and how much they will ultimately have to pay. Furthermore, it is very difficult to provide an accurate quote for new companies.
Hourly rate
- Advantage: Regardless of the type of work the accountant is handling, you pay only for the time actually spent. This is clearly the fairest way to pay for any services (not just accounting).
- Disadvantage: This requires absolute trust in the accounting firm. You also need to be able to assess the hourly rate in the context of the firm’s level of digitization and its specific processes. Paying one firm at a rate of €50/hour may ultimately cost you more than paying another at a rate of €80/hour. This is true if the more expensive accountant is fully digitized and completes their work twice as fast.
Regardless of which of the above methods the accounting firm uses, at the end of the day, it wants to earn the same amount. It all depends on how it “sells” this price to the client.
At Adviterra, we currently offer so-called flexible packages based on the number of entries posted in the journal. Once a certain threshold (100 entries) is exceeded, clients pay €1.40 for each additional entry. It’s transparent and fair—clients pay only for what they actually use.
But let’s be honest: even this model is already outdated today.
Why are old models no longer sufficient? There is a huge difference between an accountant simply entering a simple bank fee and manually processing a complicated foreign receipt. The complexity of these tasks is worlds apart, yet standard accounting systems (such as Pohoda) are currently unable to automatically assess the actual time required for posting based on the specific task.
The result is that items are “averaged out,” which tends to be a distinct disadvantage for highly automated companies. We have decided to change this approach.
Numiron: Our Path to Complete Transparency
At Adviterra, we have been actively collecting data for three years. We track more than 30 categories of accounting tasks, comparing individual tasks with the actual time spent on them and the resulting payroll costs. This data serves as the foundation for our pricing model of the future.
Our goal is clear: to replace the use of averages with the precise financial cost of each task.
Thanks to our Numiron system, we are already able to offer significant discounts that take into account the complexity of accounting for individual items based on their level of automation. One example is the posting of transaction tax transactions, which we provide to clients completely free of charge thanks to Numiron technology. Another example is the posting of issued invoices via Numiron, where we offer a discount of up to 85% off the price per accounting item.
What does the near future hold for us?
Digitization is not an end goal, but an ongoing process. What are we currently working on, and how will it benefit you, our clients?
- A new era in pricing. We are developing a model with approximately 30 to 40 price tiers based on the type of service. At the end of each month, you will receive an invoice with a transparent itemized breakdown, clearly distinguishing between the costs of automated and manual tasks.
- 100% in the Numiron system by October 2026. Our goal is to be able to handle the accounting for selected (smallest) companies entirely in Numiron by the end of October 2026.
- Preparing for e-Invoicing in 2027: Starting January 1, 2027, e-invoicing will take effect, once again changing the rules of the game. While others will be scrambling to change their invoicing models, we will already be ready with a fair model based on the actual complexity of accounting.
How does a modern automation discount work in practice?
Transparency isn’t just an empty word to us. Take a look at how we calculate prices today, for example, on receipts:
- The base price per item is €1.40.
- If a client uploads a receipt directly to Numiron, they will receive a discount of up to 40% for automatic receipt processing.
- As a result, thanks to this technology, you don’t pay the full price for skilled labor when a machine performs most of the work.
Conclusion: We are looking for partners, not just clients
At Adviterra, we understand that every accounting firm needs to generate profit. However, our goal is not to artificially inflate our margins at the client’s expense, but to grow through efficiency and innovation. We are grateful to our clients for their feedback, which constantly drives us to be pioneers in the market.
Together, we are transforming accounting from a necessary administrative burden into a modern, data-driven service. The future is digital, and we are ready for it.
